If you want a bird this is the place to go! Don't go to a generic pet store for your birds. This seems to be a family run store and EVERYONE is knowledgable about their birds. There's a huge variety and they're frequently getting new babies. They're hand fed and frequently handled by staff and visitors so they're very tame. They also have an amazing variety of toys, supplies, food, cages and so much more. My only recommendation for new bird owners, ask how long it'll be before the bird you want can go home, they may have older ones closer to their "go home" date. We picked out a baby cockatiel and have had to wait almost 2 months to bring him home which is hard for my impatient heart, but because of this I've had weekly visits to the store and really come to appreciate all they have to offer. Even if you're not in the market for a new bird, its absolutely worth a visit to marvel at the feathered beauties.
I've not been there in about 5 or 6 years. The place is as busy as ever. They go out of their way to help you. I did see a lot of impatient people though. The staff was doing their best to help everyone. People need to be more patient. The only problem I had was there was no automatic door. I do walk with a walker. So with all that I had too get to the Uber it was very hard to manage everything!
Varieties Bird Shop is hands down the best bird shop, breeder, groomer, boarder, bird experience in the St. Louis area. I have been visiting them for 11 years and recommend them to anyone who will listen.They are first and foremost, very knowledgeable. They are kind, polite, and always have the best interest of their and other people's birds at their core. They hand raise beautiful loving birds. They sell absolutely everything you could need for your birds and plenty of wild bird items as well. They have a beautiful nursery and large open air play are for their personal and available birds. The staff and owners are heads above "pet store" staff. They have no problem telling people if a bird they have chosen is not a good fit for their home. They carefully vette those who purchase birds from them, and do their best to never forget a bird and owner. My yellow sided green cheek conure was hatched there March 23rd 2008. I chose her before she was weaned. I was able to visit her and bond with her as often as I wanted as she grew. They remember her and me to this day and always have a smile for us. As a side note, they have the best prices in town as well. They have hand made toys, and even an area to make your own bird toys. Even if you don't own a bird, they are worth visiting to spend time with the birds, the staff, and even other visitors and their pet birds.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! Its a magical birdie wonderland Everyone there is super friendly and helpful. The guys who trim up my cockatiels are nice to them... even though they arent nice to the guys Even though bird food is cheaper on Chewy, I always buy my supplies here! I always look forward to my trips to the bird store.
