Absolutely love this state park. The animals are beautiful and amazing to look at. They have picnic areas you an grill at to enjoy the day further. There are trails and pathways in the elk area, as well as ponds. You can see buffalo, elk, deer, geese, and turtles at this park. Fun for the whole family.
I love Lone Elk park in the winter. The frozen lake and bare trees are a wonder to behold. Today I saw elk, buffalo, deer, grey and red squirrels, robins, and a red headed woodpecker. The hills are steep, so I wouldn't come during snow with my 2 wheel drive car.
Definitely worth the trip if you are from not around here. Quiet, peaceful and scenic drive through the woods in order to spot elk and bison. Sometimes you see deer and other things too. You are able to sit at picnic tables for lunch with a good view. The place also has an indoor restroom which is very nice.
First time I visited the park and really enjoyed it. Decided to park the car and hike the White Bison Trail. The trail itself was only 3 miles, but lots of fairly close shots of the Elk. Definitely would return someday.
Love this park, have since I was a child. And now I'm taking my child who also loves it. Best to go early morning or close to dusk.
